Sir Karl Jenkins to conduct Llangollen concert for UN’s 80th Anniversary

Sir Karl Jenkins will be conducting a landmark concert at this year’s Llangollen International Eisteddfod to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The centrepiece of the evening will be a performance of Karl Jenkins’ masterpiece One World, a large-scale choral work for soloists, choir and orchestra, which heralds a vision of a peaceful and egalitarian planet that treats nature and ecological issues with respect and where human rights are universal. It reflects his passion for bringing people together through the universal power of music, promoting a message of peace and understanding across cultures.

How to Apply

Spaces for this opportunity are limited, so we’re inviting singers to submit a short audio or video recording to audition for a place.

What Should I Send?

Any piece of your choice, accompanied or unaccompanied, that you feel best represents your voice. We're not looking for perfection, just a good stable tone and good intonation.

A past recording from an SAHC project (even if it’s a harmony line) will be fine, as long as your voice is clearly audible.

You do not have to be a regular SAHC member to audition – everyone is welcome to apply.

PLEASE NOTE If you previously applied for One World in Schwäbisch Gmünd with KONEKTO you can re-send the same audition recording.

Deadline for Applications 24th March at Midnight (GMT)
Successful Applicants Notified By: 28th March

To apply, please submit your recording along with your name and voice part via the link below. Once accepted, you will receive further instructions regarding registration and payment.

Accommodation, Travel and more

  • I Haven't Sung 'One World' Before - Can I Apply?

Yes! Anyone who is comfortable learning the music independently ahead of our 8th July piano rehearsal is welcome to join this event, but please note that there will be no online rehearsals.

If you live near London there are rehearsals happening with the Covent Garden Chorus that you would also be welcome to join, although we appreciate this won't be practical for everyone.

  • Accommodation:
Accommodation recommendations will be given to singers who are taking part, but singers will be responsible for organising their own travel and two nights of accommodation in Llangollen or the nearby towns of Chester or Wrexham.
A group will be made to allow singers to interact and coordinate logistics.

  • Travel:
By train: Approx. £70 return from London Euston to Chester.
Some car-sharing between singers might be possible in due course.

  • Registration Fee:
£50 per person, payable through the SAHC website.

    Scores:
You will need to purchase your own copy of One World, currently priced at £14.80 via themusicexchange.co.uk
